Columbus Correctional Institution Visiting Information:

Regular Population Inmate's visitation including special visits is by appointment Sunday through Thursday, weekly. Appointments must be made at least three days in advance and no more than 14 days. The visitor must call, Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or noon to 4:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment. Each inmate will be allowed only one visit per week. A maximum of three visitors (adults and children) will be permitted to visit an inmate per weekly visitation session.

*Visitation on Sundays will be for one hour blocks and Monday – Thursday sessions are two hour blocks. Visitation will not occur on holidays
A valid photo identification card must be presented by anyone (16 yrs. or older) arriving at the institution to visit with an inmate. All visitors are required to conform to the standards of dress as described in the Visitation Rules listed in the “For Offender’s Families” section of this website.
Special Visits:
Extended Visits are available by appointment and with staff approval to those visitors who live over 500 miles from Columbus Correctional Institution, and may be scheduled no more than once every six (6) months. These visits are limited to immediate family.
Legal Visits:
Legal visits will be by appointment only Monday through Thursday. The legal visitor must call, Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 to 10:30 a.m. or noon to 4:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment. In addition, the legal visitor must provided a letterhead document 24 hours before the scheduled visit, indicating the name of the attorney/agency, the inmate requesting to visit, and the date of time of the visit.
Segregated Inmates / Non –Contact Visits:
Inmates who are in segregation or have been restricted to non contact visitation can visit Monday through Thursday also by appointment only. The visitor must call at least 48 hours in advance to schedule an appointment. Only two adults, or one adult and one child will be allowed to visit during a one hour visiting session. Schedule - is daily from 9 to 10 a.m., 1 to 2:00 p.m., and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Availability of Telephones

(1) Each correctional facility should establish telephones or telephone banks in
sufficient numbers so as to provide appropriate access to telephones by inmates
for outgoing calls.

(2) Telephones are to be wall-mounted and collect only.

(3) Inmate telephones have a master switch that enables either facility staff or the
Division’s Telecommunication section to render the telephones inoperable during
periods of emergency or other appropriate times.

(4) The establishment of an appropriate number of telephones or telephone banks is
authorized as a legitimate inmate welfare expenditure subject to the Division
approval process.

(b) Inmate Access

(1) Minimum Security Facilities

(A) Regular population minimum custody inmates at minimum security
facilities should have open access to telephones as operational
considerations permit. Insofar as possible, correctional staff should
routinely supervise inmate use of these telephones.

(B) Inmate use of telephones will be by collect call only and will be limited to
ten (10) minutes. Telephones should automatically terminate the call after
the time limit has expired.

(C) Minimum custody inmates may utilize the telephones for maintaining
family ties, contacting prospective employers or, communicating with
friends or relatives as a part of pre-release planning activities or other
legitimate purposes that serve to better prepare the inmate for transition to
the community.

(2) Medium/Close Security Facilities

(A) Regular population inmates assigned to a medium or close security facility
will be provided scheduled access to telephones if requested by the
inmate.

(B) Inmate use of telephones will be by collect call only and will be limited to
ten (10) minutes. Telephones should automatically terminate the call after
the time limit has expired.

(C) Medium and close custody inmates will be permitted a minimum of two
(2) telephone calls per calendar month. Facility Heads are authorized to
allow more than two (2) calls per month based on facility operations and
capabilities.

(3) Special Populations

(A) Inmates assigned to safekeeping, Administrative Segregation, Intensive
Control, Maximum Control, Protective Control and death row will be
allowed telephone privileges based on control and safety considerations as
designated by the Facility Head. (4-4271)


(B) Inmates assigned to Disciplinary Segregation and High Security
Maximum Control will be allowed limited telephone privileges except for
calls related specifically to access to the attorney of record, based on
control and safety considerations as designated by the Facility Head.

(C) Mental Health In-Patient

Mental Health In-patient inmates generally should be provided telephone
access consistent with facility security classification and inmate custody
level. The inmate Mental Health Treatment Team generally will manage
inmate telephone access.

Duration:

No time limit unless space availability is limited.

    when will I be able to get a phone call from micheal Teague ive been waiting four days he call last night but it just activated my number ive already payed for services to talk with him just waiting for call or is there something else I have to do
