I fail to see the sense in cancelling one of the 12 Step Meetings to save money. These meetings are a source of information and support to the inmates who want to find out if they have an addiction to drugs and alcohol and an ongoing support and forum for those who are serious about their recovery.

I would think that anything that may have even the smallest effect on obtaining/maintaining sobriety in the prison would have a high priority. I realize that not everyone attending is going for the ‘right reasons’ but in my 38 years of recovery I have found that if a person attends enough meetings something will invariably sink in.

The other shameful problem is the lack of classes available to inmates who want to study and test for their GED. We are seriously setting these men up to fail when they are released and cannot get a job because they lack a high school diploma. At the very least there must be some sort of correspondence courses or video courses that could be made available to the inmates who are serious about their education.
